Zithromax Z-Pak

Azithromycin is in a group of drugs known as macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin is an active drug that fights bacteria in the body.

What is Zithromax Z-Pak (azithromycin)?

Zithromax is an antiviral medication used for treatment of various types of bacterial infections such as; skin infections, respiratory infections, ear infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

Precautions:

One of the most important information people should know about Zithromax is not to use it for patients with allergic reactions to azithromycin of drug of similar type like erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin and troleandomycin.

Always make sure that you tell your doctors about the medications you are using; this should include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and even herbal products. Avoid taking new medications without telling your doctor. Always keep a list of all the drugs you are taking and have taken in the past.

Always take your Zithromax Z-pak for the entire prescription period even if your conditions improved before the prescription is over.

Do not take Zithromax Z-pak for simple viral infection such as flu or common without consulting your doctor.

Antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium lessen the effectiveness of arythromycin when taken 2 hours before and after the antibiotic.

Zithromax Z-pak (arythromycin) is available only with a doctor’s prescription.

Special doses of azithromycin are recommended if you have one of these conditions:

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • History of Long QT syndrome.
  • Bacteremia (blood infection)
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Infections, nosocomial or hospital-acquired
  • Weak immune system
  • Weakened physical condition
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Diarrhea
  • Heart disease
  • Heart rhythm problems (e.g., prolonged QT interval)
  • Myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)

 

Zithromax Z-pak and Pregnancy:

This drug is not expected to be unsafe to an unborn child. But tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planing to be pregnant before starting the treatment.

Zithromax Z-pak and Breastfeeding:

It is not identified whether azithromycin passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing child.

Zithromax Z-pak and Pediatric

Studies show that there are no pediatric related problems that can limit the usefulness of azythromycin in children and infants 6 months and older.

Interactions with Food, Tobacco or Alcohol

There are certain drugs that should not be taken at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food because certain interactions may occur. Alcohol and tobacco also have big effects with certain medicines, so always discuss with your doctor the use of your any drug with food, alcohol, or tobacco.
